Hello everyone and welcome to the first ever Flick Busters blog. Flick Busters are Mike, Denise, Emily, and Sheila. Today in our blog we are going to talk about a few movies that we have seen this year whether they were at home or in the theatre. We rate the movies on a scale from 1 to 10. So with no further interruptions let's jump right into it.
Mike's Pick of the Week:
The movie I watched was Resident Evil:3D. I thought this movie was amazing. The story of this movie followed the video game very well. For the people who do not know the video game or never heard of the title "Resident Evil", I will give you a short summary. The story is about a company called Umbrella that was working on a special project and then something went very wrong. The people at Umbrella developed a virus known as the T-Virus. The T-Virus turns everything that is living, from dogs to humans, into zombie-like creatures.
This was the fourth movie in the Resident Evil series. I have watched the entire series and this one followed the previous movies very well, unlike most movies, today, that do not always follow the previous movie in the series.
I liked the actress, Milla Jovovich, who played the main character, Alice. Milla has played the role of Alice in the entire Resident Evil franchise. She does a really good job playing the part. I have two suggestions for some improvement in the movie. The first suggestion would be that they should have added more 3D technology to the middle of the movie, since it was the only part that seemed to lack some of the 3D technology. My second suggestion would be that they should have developed the character, Chris Redfield, more. He looked a little weak in the movie compared to the video game character.
I would recommend this movie to everyone who is a fan of the Resident Evil game or anyone who enjoys action films. The movie is a must see for all. It is well developed movie from sound to graphics. I have watched this movie twice in the theater and when it comes out on DVD, I will buy it and the rest of the series. I give this movie 9 out of 10.
Denise's Pick of the Week:
I watched the movie Legend of the Guardian: Owls of Ga'hoole, a fantasy epic. The movie was loosely based on a fifteen book series called the Owls of Ga'hoole. The movie combined the adventures of Soren, the young barn owl and hero of the story. Soren is to find the Tree of Ga'hoole and the Guardians in order to save the owl kingdom and his siblings, Kludd and Eglantine, from the evil "Pure Ones."
The movie had a Harry Potter meets Lord of the Rings feel to it and was completely CG animated and very well done. It is a movie that leaves room for more sequels since it left out quite a few of the adventures of Soren and the Guardians. I think that if the movie does well in the box office it will definitely bring about one or two more movies.
The movie was very well done and had great plot. It would be hard to choose a favorite scene, but if I had to choose, it would be the battle scene at the end between the Guardians and the Pure Ones. The scene made Soren a hero because he single handedly won the battle by rescuing the imprisoned Guardians and helped to defeat King Metalbeak and his mate, Queen Nyra, the leaders of the Pure Ones.
I will be buying this movie when it comes out on DVD and I would recommend seeing this movie if you are a Harry Potter or Lord of the Rings fan. You will find this movie highly entertaining and beautifully animated, with plenty of action and heartfelt scenes. I give this movie 8 out of 10.
Emily's Pick of the Week:
I finally watched the new Alice in Wonderland by Tim Burton. It was a lot better than I thought it was going to be. The first one cannot be topped but Tim Burton did a fantastic job illustrating Alice reentering Wonderland. The movie reminded me of the first Alice in Wonderland with wicked twist. I love how the movie was redone with new technology we have today. I did not see it in 3D but the graphics were still outstanding!
The movie was recommended to me by my friend and I will recommended it to my family and friends. My favorite part of the movie was when Alice gets into the castle and is discovered by the Queen, it is hilarious! The only suggestion I have for the movie would be to make it a little longer. I liked parts of the ending, but I thought it should be played out more.
I have to say Johnny Depp fits the part of the "Mad Hatter" perfectly. He played the part so well, I couldn't believe it. I was fixated by him throughout the film and his makeup was amazing. I really think the cast was absolutely perfect and I wouldn't have changed any of them. I would most definitely watch this movie again; it was really captivating and entertaining.
Sheila's Pick of the Week:
Temple Grandin is an HBO movie that recently came out on DVD. The part of Temple Grandin was played by the incredible actress, Claire Danes, and Julia Ormond plays her mother in this true story. It is a remarkable story of a woman diagnosed with autism in the 1950's when very little was known about the disease. Due to a great support system and great personal strength, Temple Grandin achieved success beyond what was thought possible at that time. She earned a PH.D. In animal science and is highly respected for her innovations in cattle care-including the slaughter procedures. She is very gifted and uses her unusual gifts to try and make her life count. The movie had incredibly sad moments and quite funny moments as well. It is a great movie if you need your spirits lifted.
I actually have two favorite parts in the movie. The first is where Temple invents her "squeeze box", and the ending where she stands up and addresses parents of autistic children. There are some graphic parts to the movies, as well, involving cattle. If I was not a vegetarian before I watched this movie, I certainly would be after I saw it. The people concerned about the animals in the film can be comforted by knowledge that the American Humane Society had a representative on site during filming. The movie does not portray cattle owners and handlers in a very good light. I would hope there are some in the business who are not chauvinistic and threatened by change.
Temple Grandin is now a professor at Colorado State University. My one criticism of this brave woman is.... she has all this professional success, why can't she get her teeth fixed? You should see this movie if you get a chance, it is well worth the rental fee. I give this movie 8 out of 10.
